Travelling to Samos

From the UK

Thomsonfly, the charter airline, fly direct from Gatwick and Manchester to Samos. Early booking is advised as these flights will get booked up by the major holiday companies.

As an alternative, it's very easy to fly to Athens and then use one of the daily hops from Olympic Air or Aegean Airlines. Olympic generally has three to four flights to Samos per day and Aegean has one to two.

Flights to Athens are readily available from many sources, including

  • Aegean (from Heathrow and Stansted): some of the best value flights, often from only €49.00 one way
  • Olympic and British Airways (from Heathrow)
  • EasyJet (from Luton and Gatwick)
  • Lufthansa (from many UK airports via Germany)

As well as booking direct with the airline, you can always create an itinerary with one of the many online travel agents such as Expedia and Travelocity.

Samos International Airport is small but efficient at dealing with the influx of tourists and baggage handling is done quickly (generally to ensure the package tourists are 'processed' with maximum speed!). Departure is relatively well-run, depending on whether you are flying with one of the "package company" airlines or a scheduled flight. If you are flying with a "package airline" be prepared for long queues at check-in and ensure that you arrive with plenty of time prior to your flight.

From other European countries

As well as flying directly to Athens with most major airlines and then using Olympic or Aegean, the following European carriers fly directly to Samos:

Getting to Studios Ioanna from the airport

Samos Airport is approximately 40 to 50 minutes from Studios Ioanna. The actual travelling time is dependent upon many factors including the road works taking place at the time, getting stuck behind a coach or farm vehicle or stopping to admire the views!

There are two ways to get to us: by taxi or by rental car. Please see our details on car rental.

Taxis

There are always plenty of taxis waiting to pick up a fare from incoming flights - there is no need to book in advance. Walk outside of the terminal building and you will see them. All fares are fixed price and the fare from the airport to Studios Ioanna is usually around €50 (this will vary each year so it is better to be prepared to pay more and be pleased to find you pay less!). Ask for Limnionas and, in most cases, the driver will also know Studios Ioanna.

There's a new service on the Greek site, Zee, that will give you an approximation of the taxi fares on Samos. We cannot say how accurate it is so use it as a guide only and needless to say, we cannot be held responsible for any inaccuracies on external websites - you may find it useful though (zoom in on Samos to choose your start point, Pythagorio, and end point, Limnionas): Taxis on Zee

Driving to Studios Ioanna

If you rent a car from us, we will give you the details of where to pick your car up (usually it is in the airport car park with your name on the dashboard and the keys in an agreed location).

If you are driving to Studios Ioanna for the first time, it is ideal to have a map prior to arrival. Many rental firms will provide one but it is always best to be prepared. Basic directions are shown below or you can trust these Google Maps directions which are accurate if not hugely detailed with road names!
